This article focuses on the didactic importance of the conceptual use of artistic references and techniques in the teaching of architecture. The main objective is to explore how art can serve as an effective tool to enrich the learning process in the architectural field, through a specific case study: the Architecture Workshop II, carried out at the Universidad del Desarrollo during the years 2017-2018, under the tutelage of the teaching architects Roberto Peragallo, Soledad Larraín and the assistants Alejandra Martí and Andrea Coxhead.
The proposed methodology is based on the integration of artistic disciplines, such as paint- ing, music, poetry and cinema, as a support for architectural learning. It examines how the use of these artistic expressions can stimulate creativity, encourage detailed observation, promote spatial sensitivity and strengthen the humanistic sense in architecture students. In addition, the role of artistic references as a source of inspiration for the conceptualiza- tion, process and materialization of architectural projects is analyzed.
The case study details the activities carried out within the framework of the Workshop, where students were challenged to translate musical, poetic, and pictorial elements into pre-architectural forms, spaces, and volumes. For this, the techniques used are described to capture the intangible qualities of the arts in the architectural language, as well as experimentation as a method of creative investigation.
The preliminary results reveal that the integration of the arts in the teaching of architecture can enrich the educational experience, encourage originality and strengthen the perceptual and projectual abilities and humanistic habits of students. This article seeks to highlight the relevance of the implementation of these methodologies in the training of future architects and architects, as well as promoting a multidisciplinary approach in the teaching of architecture.
