Abstract

The Michoacan Penitentiary was not only a place of correction, it was also a
political, administrative and regulatory mechanism, used to punish and eradicate
crime from Michoacan society. Through reason and liberal discourse, it was proposed that punishment be see from a more human perpective, in which
confinement in a prison and loss of freedom were positioned as the central elements of this proposal, causing the state to be the one in charge of protecting, re-educating and reintegrating the transgressor in society.
