This article examines the gender inequalities faced by professional women in historically male-dominated sectors, such as the conventional (fossil) energy industry and renewable energies in Mexico. It analyzes the contradictions and paradoxes that emerge in this context: on the one hand, women’s need to demonstrate their abilities and challenge dynamics of discrimination and occupational segregation; on the other, the struggle for gender equity, in which various perspectives emphasize the conflicts between labor and capital, while also revealing a meritocratic logic centered on individual autonomy and empowerment within corporate structures. From a kaleidoscopic approach, the article addresses women’s unequal conditions compared to men, their professional demands, and the strategies they employ to overcome gender barriers. It also examines the limitations and contradictions of these efforts, particularly regarding the aspiration to mitigate or eradicate inequalities without questioning the persistence of power relations in the workplace, corporate economic rationality, and the strengthening of a feminism framed within the logics of capital.
