Solidarity Economy and Sustainability of Peasant Associations in Colombian Rural Agroproductive Systems

his study aimed to analyze the contribution of the solidarity economy to the sustainability of rural agroproductive systems through a comparative assessment of Colombian peasant associations, considering organizational, productive, social, environmental, and territorial dimensions. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was adopted, combining a quantitative approach with qualitative support. Data were collected from formally established peasant associations selected through purposive non-probabilistic sampling and complemented by documentary analysis and analytical triangulation. Descriptive and correlational statistical analyses were conducted alongside qualitative content analysis to interpret organizational and territorial dynamics. The findings indicate that the solidarity economy enhances sustainability by strengthening social capital, participatory governance, productive diversification, and the adoption of agroecological practices. The study concludes that its effectiveness depends on territorial and institutional conditions, highlighting the need for differentiated public policies that reinforce organizational capacities and promote sustainable rural development.
