Abstract

This article traces the main stages that have characterized the construction of the current European Union. To do this, we outlined the relationship among law, politics, public policies. In particular, through a rigorous methodological approach based on the comparison of sources and the search for technical aspects investigated through the specific categories of multiple disciplines to have the broadest possible vision of the phenomenon, the historical stages that led the European elites to pursue a common idea of Europe that exists and live the challenges of contemporaneity to ensure a solid peace through a transversal involvement of institutions are retraced public and private on the basis of economic interests. The common thread of this work is the theme of European competitiveness and the position that Europe assumes on the geopolitical chessboard: from the entry into force of the Single European Act  in 1986 to the presentation of the One Europe, One Market Agenda in 2026. The research is aimed at showing the importance of choral choices in the path of integration and Europeanization, highliting the limits and potential that the Old Continent has faced since the dawn of the project of a united Europe and what prospects remain open in the current scenarios according to the agenda of leaders who see in a systemic approach the way to compete with other global technological and political giants.
