In this context analysis, consumer prices and market configuration in the processing and modern retail marketing sections of the Chilean food and beverage value chain are investigated. For comparative purposes, various aspects of this segment of manufacturing in the Hispanic market are incorporated. In the first section, a variety of recent economic indicators are presented for both countries, together with the comparative evolution of the consumer price index for food and beverages and the FAO agricultural price index. Subsequently, the structure of the food processing and mass consumption distribution markets is examined in depth, presenting the shares and concentration levels, in addition to calculating and comparing the sectoral sales indexes for both countries. Finally, the operating profit index (Ebitda) and recent results of two leading and representative units of Chilean and Spanish supermarket retail distribution are calculated. In this way, it is observed that the divergent business performances detected are intertwined with dissimilar price levels and market structures.
