Este artículo se propone analizar los impactos socio-territoriales que han producido las distintas estrategias que amparadas en supuestos esquemas de desarrollo inducido se han localizado en el ámbito territorial de la Patagonia Austral Argentino-Chilena a lo largo del siglo XX y en los inicios del siglo XXI. El planteo intenta poner en reflexión los alcances de estas megainversiones desde la perspectiva de la historia productiva de la región resaltando, entre otros aspectos, su incidencia en la construcción de funciones y representaciones sobre este espacio socioeconómico, sus consecuencias en la promoción o debilitamiento de un sistema de actores locales-regionales y su alcance en la definición u obturación de proyectos de desarrollo endógeno con posibilidades reales de sostenibilidad en el tiempo.
