Based on recent survey data and the relevance of external knowledge on the firm innovative performance, this paper aims to illustrate the behavior and innovative performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) belonging to the manufacturing sector in Argentina, with special emphasis on the SMEs cooperation linkages with commercial and/or academic partners. The proposed analysis, descriptive in scope, focuses on the comparison of the innovative profile of SMEs and large companies, as well as on the description of such profile among SMEs that are linked to diverse partners during their innovation process. The results found refer to the prevalence of innovative features outlined in previous studies; the statistically significant differences in innovative behavior and performance between different firm sizes; and the particular innovative behavior of linked SMEs.
