Abstract
Introduction: Complete edentulism remains a prevalent issue among older adults, significantly impacting quality of life. Removable complete dentures continue to be a widely used rehabilitation option, and advances in digital dentistry have enabled the optimization of their fabrication through hybrid workflows. The aim of this study was to describe a clinical case of oral rehabilitation using complete dentures fabricated via a hybrid digital protocol and to evaluate the impact on the patient's quality of life.
Case Report: An 88-year-old male patient underwent rehabilitation using a hybrid workflow that integrated conventional functional impressions with digital design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM). Clinical and laboratory stages were documented. Oral health-related quality of life was assessed before and after treatment using the OHIP-EDENT-Sp questionnaire.
Results: The fabrication and delivery of the complete dentures were completed in four clinical sessions. The patient reported functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial improvements. The OHIP-EDENT-Sp score decreased from 46/76 to 8/76, demonstrating a significant reduction in the negative impact of oral health on quality of life, with the greatest improvements observed in physical disability, pain, and functional limitation.
Conclusions: Prosthetic rehabilitation using a hybrid digital workflow proves to be a clinically viable and efficient therapeutic alternative, allowing for a reduction in the number of clinical sessions and an improvement in perceived quality of life. These findings support the clinical value of the hybrid approach as a predictable, efficient, and patient-centered strategy, which is particularly relevant for older adults with functional limitations.
