Abstract

The growing complexity of cities has created an interdisciplinary territory made up of a wide range of professionals, such as architects, urban designers, urban planners, engineers, politicians, Big Data analysts, anthropologists, sociologists, political scientists, or physicists. Each one of them makes an approach to the city from its disciplinary field, which is partially overlapped with the rest of the disciplines, but never from a holistic point of view, that it can integrate all the knowledge associated with the city. Present paper argue that the city is not only a unit of analysis, but a discipline by itself.
In this sense, a first synthesis exercise is proposed, which breaks down the urban phenomenon into a system of Human and Non-Human flows that interact in the Built Environment of the city. Meanwhile, it is proposed the integration of these flows in the built environment through the trans-specific concepts of time and co-evolution, in order to catalyze the emergence of the discipline of the city.
