Abstract

Valparaíso is a city whose processes have shaped the way it has constructed itself from a historical, cultural, and material perspective, generating a unique way of inhabiting that has earned it recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s buildings are historical, material, and cultural containers, whose sustained use and modes of intervention are vital to the city’s identity.

Through the analysis of a notable case of reconfiguration and revitalization of built heritage between party walls within a study polygon, the aim is to reveal design principles and strategies applicable to the enhancement, reconfiguration, and virtuous reconversion of buildings of value within the city’s plan.
