Adaptive reconversion of heritage. A strategy for enhancing and developing neighborhoods. Three cases from the historic center of Santiago.

The adaptive repurposing of heritage buildings is a key strategy for rehabilitating structures that have lost their original function and their connection to the urban environment. Through a change of use, these buildings not only ensure their preservation but also actively contribute to the revitalization of the neighborhood. In this context, conversion to residential or mixed-use developments is especially important for the reactivation of downtown Santiago, particularly in areas where changes in urban configuration and building use occurred following the social unrest and the pandemic.
