La sociología naval: organización, patrimonio, historia y futuro

La sociología militar se centra principalmente en la sociología de los ejércitos. Si bien gran parte de la investigación en ciencias del comportamiento sobre grupos militares ha incluido sujetos de estudio de la marina y el apoyo naval (p. ej., Bachman y Blair, 1975; Bachman, Blair y Segal, 1977; Forbes, 1976), la literatura no ha reconocido las características estructurales que distinguen a las marinas de otras ramas de las fuerzas armadas, ni las consecuencias de estas características distintivas para el papel que desempeñan las marinas en el sistema militar. Como estudio exploratorio del sistema militar, esta investigación analizará las diferencias entre el ejército y la marina y clarificará la conceptualización sociológica de las marinas y su relación con la guerra.
El objetivo de esta investigación es demostrar que los ejércitos y las marinas son organizativamente diferentes, y que las teorías de la sociología militar basadas en estudios de ejércitos son insuficientes para comprender las organizaciones navales. Esto no implica negar la existencia de superposición entre la organización del ejército y la marina, sino más bien señalar que existen diferencias en los tipos modales de organización.
