There is a kind of close connection between architecture and sculpture, the way in which both arts occupy space and the deep relationships that exist in the work of both architects and sculptors, we could say that sculpture is a prelude of Architecture, since, due to the absence of a program, it is much freer and more autonomous.
Painting has also been closely related to architecture, not only accompanying its interiors and exteriors through paintings and murals. From frescoes in Roman residences throughout the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque and up to the 19th century, painting has made visible the act of habiting, both public and domestic.
It is precisely the domestic dwelling that with the arrival of modernity transforms and modifies this connection, or rather makes it more complex, influencing and relating to other arts, new technologies and media, Above all, with the performing arts such as studio photography, cinema and drama, which were ahead of architecture to carry out these enormous transformations.
This research will embark on a journey studying, linking and analyzing how the aforementioned arts hinted at or helped three architects from the beginning of the 20th century to project the commissions for houses and qualify the dwelling.
For this, I intend to generate a study from three intersecting dimensions: cases provided by architecture; contemporary conceptualization and philosophy of living during the 20th century and finally; the performing arts and mass media which have guided the work of architects and that opens up more questions than answers regarding the new domestic dwelling, especially in the post-pandemic world.
