This article explores the derivations of "the fantastic", contrasting the usual definitions of said expression with Todorov's pioneering analysis, whose semantic field this paper aims to expand by connecting it with other pertinent terms, such as "the numinous", by Rudolf Otto, "the missing image”, by Pascal Quignard, and the personal poetics of the strange Chilean writer Sergio Meier.
