Mantas, ponchos y mantones representados en la colección fotográfica Teodoro Kuhlmann Steffens

Abstract

This article presents the results of a clothing analysis process, specifically blankets, ponchos and shawls, depicted in the photographs of the Teodoro Kuhlmann Steffens (TKS) collection that is deposited in the Valparaíso Natural History Museum. The work arises from the need to document a series of objects of the same nature, which are part of the collections that are kept at the Center for Textile Conservation, School of Design, University of Valparaíso.

The analyzed photographs from the TKS collection constitute a documentary source, providing an approximation of the formal characteristics of blankets, ponchos and shawls used by men and women, as well as providing knowledge about these pieces of clothing produced in the early 1900s. On the other hand, On the other hand, the process of analyzing the photographs provides relevant data that allows contributing to the process of documenting similar pieces stored in other archives or museums, while at the same time allowing contrasting textile pieces of a similar type that are stored in museum institutions and providing references for an approximation of dating and iconographic characterization of these objects.
