Artistic representations of women in murals of Valparaíso

Abstract

The purpose of this text is to unravel these interwoven meanings, through an analytical exercise of observation and registration of murals with feminine motifs that allows an understanding and codes that are given to the female gure within the city of Valparaíso, since The walls of the city are dressed with these images that are considered a faithful reflection of the collective thought of the citizens.
In this framework, the present research seeks to understand the meaning of female artistic representations in the murals and their visibility within the heritage.
An analysis is also proposed based on the murals of Valparaíso and the results it yields regarding the current image of women in the city, as a small diagnosis of the evolution of female representations. The research is a contribution to studies related to heritage with a gender perspective, which seeks to develop ways of systematizing the processes of popular artistic creation, for future research related to heritage areas, case analysis, especially material heritage found in an urban context.
