Author Guidelines

Welcome to the official author guidelines for publishing in Revista Matronería Actual.

01 Scope and Priority Thematic Areas

The journal will consider original, unpublished manuscripts in the following areas:

  • Sexual and reproductive health.
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Neonatology and Child Care (Puericulture).
  • Public Health.
  • Midwifery Management.
  • Basic Sciences.
  • Education and Teaching.

02 Author Registration and Declarations

👤 1. Registration and Authorship

  • Registration: Mandatory in OJS for all authors, who must have a complete ORCID profile.
  • Limit: Maximum of 10 authors per manuscript.
  • Affiliation: Include professional title, highest academic degree, and institutional affiliation.
  • If any author is an undergraduate student, this status must be explicitly stated.
  • CRediT: Declare author roles according to the NISO CRediT taxonomy on the title page.

💡 2. Declarations and Use of AI

  • Authors must declare if the manuscript is derived from an undergraduate or postgraduate thesis, or a specialization project.
    Clarifying note: In the case of undergraduate or postgraduate theses, the primary author must be the thesis advisor.
  • Authors must declare that the manuscript is original and has not been previously published or submitted simultaneously to another journal for evaluation (non-duplicate submission).
  • Any potential conflicts of interest must be explicitly declared.
  • External funding sources must be declared.
  • Data used in the study must have been collected within the last 5 years.
  • Use of AI: The use of Artificial Intelligence tools in manuscript preparation or data analysis must be explicitly declared.

🤝 3. Acknowledgements

Individuals or institutions that contributed to the development of the work should be acknowledged. Study participants should be listed first in this section, as the study could not have been completed without their collaboration.

03 General Formatting Guidelines
Element Formatting Requirement
File Format Exclusively .docx (Microsoft Word).
Layout Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, 2.5 cm margins. All pages must be numbered.
Title & Abstract Title: max. 15 words. Abstract: max. 200 words (structured).
References Vancouver Style, minimum of 20 references, at least 50% published within the last 5 years.
Tables & Figures Maximum of 2 tables (editable in Word format) and/or 2 figures (high resolution, 300 dpi) placed at the end of the text.
Important: The maximum length of each table and/or figure is one page.

Important: Non-compliance with general formatting requirements is grounds for immediate administrative rejection.

04 Definition of CRediT Roles

Use these standardized roles to declare author contributions on the title page. List the names of the participating authors for each role, or indicate 'not applicable' (N/A) if appropriate.

05 Specific Requirements by Article Type

Select your category to view technical requirements and download the corresponding official template.

Word Count: The maximum word limit is counted from the Introduction to the end of the Conclusions (inclusive). The Title, Abstracts, Tables, Figures, and Bibliographic References are excluded from this count.

06 Bibliographic References

The journal strictly requires the use of the Vancouver Style. The use of reference management software (such as Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote) is highly recommended.

  • Minimum of 20 references.
  • At least 50% must be from the last 5 years.
  • Must include a DOI link whenever available.

Submission Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements before being sent for editorial evaluation.

 

Please also review the author guidelines and the anonymity requirements for peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Check each item once verified:

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in .docx (Microsoft Word) format.
  • Where available, URL or DOI links have been provided for the references.
  • The text is formatted in Times New Roman 12 pt, with 1.5 line spacing, and complies with the general formatting guidelines requested by the journal.
  • Tables and figures comply with the maximum limits (up to 2 editable tables in Word format and 2 high-resolution figures at 300 dpi), with a maximum of one page each, and are placed at the end of the manuscript after the references.
  • The manuscript adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the author guidelines.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section, the instructions for ensuring a blind review have been followed.
  • Required declarations (conflict of interest, external funding, originality/non-duplicate submission, and, if applicable, thesis derivation) are included.
Note: A complete submission aligned with these guidelines reduces administrative queries and expedites the editorial review process.

We are a continuous-publication, open-access, non-profit scientific journal. Our goal is to contribute to the dissemination of national and international scientific knowledge applied to disciplines that support the development of Midwifery from a transdisciplinary perspective.
