VIOLENCE AGAINST EDUCATION PERSONNEL: A QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF ITS PREVALENCE AND CAUSES

Abstract

This article examines the prevalence, intensity, and organizational factors associated with external violence affecting teachers and education support staff in Chile. Methodologically, a quantitative design was implemented, employing a self-administered survey with a sample of 763 education workers recruited through convenience sampling. The results indicate that 91.7% of participants have experienced violence, predominantly of low intensity. The lack of institutional support or protection, along with the characteristics of students and guardians, emerge as the primary factors associated with higher exposure. It is concluded that school-based violence against education personnel is structural and multidimensional in nature, posing the challenge of transitioning from punitive approaches toward sectoral public policies focused on prevention and occupational risk management.
