Abstract

This article aims to explore the social representations of the body of children in Guapi, Cauca. On the one hand, precepts and conceptions about childhood during the 20th and 21st centuries that place it as universal are problematized; and on the other, the theories on the social representations of childhood and the body are taken up again. Observations, interviews and daily conversations with girls, boys and adults were carried out and the data was analyzed using theoretical approaches from social anthropology, cultural psychology of development and the sociology of childhood. The results show that the social representations of the body of boys and girls in Guapi are based on the search for aesthetic and territorial harmony, promoting physical hardening for good social and individual development in their environment.
