Abstract

La ánima en pena is a comedy that Luis Ambrosio Morante decides to sign under a pseudonym. The argument is about the return of a Colonel who had been presumed dead in the war. The dead rising from their graves and the manifestations of the afterlife constitute the Gothic axis of this piece and shows the incipient romanticism of the Río de la Plata. On the other hand, the independentist ideology is still present in this manuscript, represented in the self-sacrificing soldier dedicated to the defense of the local territory.
