Resumen

El presente trabajo pretende discutir críticamente una reciente propuesta que justifica el consumo de carne de animales no humanos como un deber moral de los seres humanos. Primeramente, haremos una breve introducción al debate y situaremos las estrategias a seguir para criticar los argumentos en defensa de la permisibilidad moral de comer carne. Seguidamente, introduciremos la propuesta de Zangwill (2021) donde se presenta el Argumento del Beneficio Mutuo para justificar que el consumo de carne no sólo es moralmente permisible, sino que es un deber moral que tenemos los seres humanos. En la última sección, discutiremos críticamente el argumento y expondremos por qué es un argumento incorrecto, de esta manera argumentaremos que no tenemos justificación para concluir que sea un deber moral consumir carne. Finalmente, consideraremos una nueva versión del argumento que defienda sólo la permisibilidad de comer carne, y mostraremos por qué éste tampoco sería un argumento correcto. Por todo esto, concluiremos que comer carne no es ni un deber moral ni un acto moralmente permisible.
