Reading an early story by Maurice Blanchot, entitled ‘The Idyll’, leads us to reflect on certain fundamental concepts for thinking about the political community and the institutions that order and structure our way of life in community. What relationships can we establish between marriage, citizenship, law and freedom? A guided reading and reflection through this story will allow us to understand our institutions and to highlight the perspective that the literary experience makes possible in the exercise of reflection.
