The objective of this study is to analyze the incorporation of social responsibility within the main institutional documents that guide the strategic management of Chilean universities. Through a quantitative documentary analysis, this study examines the strategic plans, educational models, and institutional policies regarding community engagement and scientific research of the universities that comprise the Council of Rectors of Chile. The findings show that 63% of the institutions included in the sample incorporate social responsibility as a relevant aspect within the organizational plans, models, or policies examined. It is concluded that the mission of research is the area that least incorporates socially responsible behavior as a guiding principle for the strategic management of that institutional domain.
